Behaviour

The emphasis at Sheringham High School is on creating a positive, supportive climate for the students, not a punitive, threatening system of punishments and sanctions. Good discipline within the school is achieved by making reasonable expectations clear to students and being vigilant.

Sheringham High School seeks to preserve an environment within the school where students may work purposefully and feel secure, happy and confident, and where relationships between staff and students, and between the students themselves, are based on mutual respect and tolerance.

Students at the school are regarded as sensible and responsible people and are treated as such. At lunchtime, students use their Form Rooms, and the Hall as well as outside areas. Restricted areas include dangerous areas such as laboratories and workshops.

Charging

The governing body acknowledges the right of every student to receive free school education and understands that activities offered wholly or mainly during normal teaching time must be made available to all students regardless of their parents’ ability or willingness to help meet the cost.

The governors also recognise the valuable contribution that the wide range of additional activities, trips and residential experiences can make towards students’ education and aim to promote and provide such activities both as part of a broad and balanced curriculum for the students of the school and as additional optional activities.

The Governors have adopted a policy on charging for school activities as required under the 1988 Education Act. All aspects of education essential to the curriculum, or to any syllabus for an examination to be taken at the school, are provided free of charge.

SEN, disability provision & single equality scheme.

The Special Education Needs Department has the following aims:

To instil a whole school commitment and responsibility to offer students with special education needs the opportunity to achieve their full potential.
Through effective teaching enable children to have access to the National Curriculum.
Through action, relationships and general school ethos to help students appreciate their value and hence feel safe and happy in school, be able to make a contribution and develop self-confidence.
To use the SEN Code of Practice efficiently and by its use to provide, not just rights, but practical benefits to students.
To use resources available, including external agencies, in an effective and sound financial manner.
Through staff training, keep up to date with development in Special Education research, theory and practice.
