Transition from Year 6 to 7

Dear Parents and Carers,
I am writing to you concerning arrangements for your child’s transition from Year 6 to 7. We have a comprehensive transition programme, designed to ensure your child’s move to Sheringham High School is as smooth as possible. Below are the next steps.
School Visits
I am currently visiting all primary schools where children are coming from and meeting all of the Year 6 children. The aim is to let them know what to expect on their two transition days, as well as what to expect when they join us in September. During these visits, your child will be given an Admissions Pack with important forms for you to complete. If you have not received an Admissions Pack after I have visited your child’s school, please get in touch with me by emailing office@sheringhamhigh.co.uk.
Transition days
Your child has been invited to come along to Sheringham High School on Tuesday 4th July and Wednesday 5th July for two taster days. On both days, your child should arrive at 08:25 – 08:30 and make their way to the hall, via reception, where they will be registered and put into groups for the two days. There will be staff and students available to help your child find their way to the hall. We are offering every child a free lunch from our canteen for both days but if you wish to send your child in with a snack for break time, please do so. Please ensure your child also has a water bottle. If your child has any food related allergies or intolerances it is vital you make us aware by emailing me as soon as possible.
There is no need for your child to wear school uniform but they should be dressed appropriately for the two days, as they may be doing PE or Design and Technology. Therefore, trainers would be appropriate footwear.
Sanders buses are aware that we are holding two transition days and so, if your child lives in an area that serves Sheringham High School, your child will be permitted to board.
The school day finishes at 3pm. Please be aware that the school site is very busy at this time with buses and vehicles arriving and leaving. Therefore, it may be difficult for you to drive on to pick up your child.
Transition evening
On Thursday 6th July, Year 6 children and their families are invited to a Transition evening. There will be a talk at 6pm and a second talk at 6:30pm and for any families that cannot make 6.00pm. Stephenson’s, our uniform supplier, will be on site to measure your child for their free blazer with Catherine West, who will be taking your orders. We aim to ensure you have your blazer before the end of the summer term, ready for September. It should be noted that order and delivery times may affect this and these are factors outside our control.
You will also have the opportunity to sample treats from our canteen, as well as speak with key members of staff.
Your child’s first day
Your child’s first day in September will be part of a staggered start. On their first day, Thursday 7th September, they will share the school with Year 11 and some sixth form students but other year groups will not be in until the Friday, 8th September. On their first day, they will have an extended tutor time where they will be given their timetable and planner, have their biometric data recorded for cashless catering and get to know their tutor and fellow tutees.
